Review: TLDR: My crown was botched. Someone was supposed to call me after my tooth healed enough to have it redone. This never happened. Dr. Shelby left the practice not too long after.I had an unfortunate experience at Outshine Family Dental with a botched crown in 4/2023. Dr. Shelby told me my tooth pain was from my tooth being damaged and I need a crown or an onlay. I decided to go with the crown.The dental assistant mistakenly chose the wrong color for the crown (as in not even close). Next, there was a problem with the measurement. It was likely my fault in retrospect. My mouth was numb, tooth grinded, so I think I was apprehensive about biting down with the instrument in my mouth. The crown ended up being too tall.Before gluing it in, Dr. Shelby placed it in my mouth and asked how it felt. I told her it didn't feel right. I specifically said, "It sits too high and I feel like I can't completely close my mouth." She told me it probably feels off because my mouth is numb and to wait until the anesthetic wears off to see how it feels. The crown was then glued in. I was sent on my way.When I got home the first thing I noticed visually was how jarringly white it was compared to all of my other teeth.I still could not close my mouth completely. The crown sat so high that it prevented my other teeth from being able to touch. The crown kept slamming into my top tooth. It was a painful experience. Worst. Headache. Ever.The next morning Dr. Shelby checked my bite with the blue articulating paper and it showed that none of my teeth were able to touch each other on the right side of my mouth. She had to shave so much off of the crown that it lost almost all of its shape, especially the outer cusps. It's fairly flat with rounded edges.I asked her if the color would eventually stain to match the rest of my teeth. She looked confused by the question, answered no, and then asked me to open my mouth to look again. She called the dental assistant over and asked what color she used. I forget which color she said. Dr. Shelby profusely apologized for not going over the color with me. The color difference was impossible not to notice.Dr. Shelby assured me that she would redo the crown but before she could, the tooth would need to heal from the trauma of the first crown. She would have someone call to schedule it. That made sense since I wouldn't know when or if the tooth was healed enough to be redone. That was over a year ago and Dr. Shelby is no longer there.I wanted to like Outshine. My dentist for the past 17 years is headed toward retirement and I tried Outshine since my family goes here. My very first visit for a chipped tooth (before the crown debacle) was amazing and would've been 5-stars. Everyone there was friendly on all of my visits. The botched crown just left a bad taste in my mouth literally and figuratively. My wife hasn't been back since either. I'm still trying to convince my parents, who are change-adverse to find a new dentist.
